FIFTH AVENUE ENTRANCE OF EMPIRE STATE BUILDING TO RECEIVE NEW HANDICAPPED ACCESSIBLE ACCESS IN 2016
New York, New York, [December 1, 2015] Beginning January 5, 2016, the Empire State Building (ESB) will begin installation of a new ADA accessible entrance to its iconic, landmarked Fifth Avenue lobby. The redesign, which will last through March, will be shielded by a shed that accurately represents the new entrance which was approved by the Landmarks Preservation Commission, complies with specific code requirements, and aligns with both the interior and exterior Art Deco finishes ensuring the masterful design remains true to form for all those that visit.
From matching the marble of the interior walls, to identical golden accents on the outside façade, the Empire State building is working closely with architects Beyer Blinder Belle, door vendors Mackenzie Door and Gildor Inc, along with general contractors SKANSKA, and engineers Goldman Copeland, and Thornton Tomasetti, to assure that visitors continue to enjoy the grandeur of the Fifth Avenue entrance as they access the building while previewing the custom renovations. The new doors will not only provide enhanced accessibility for disabled patrons, but will also improve the building’s overall energy efficiency.
