Our pop party girl is back – but now, she’s free.
Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter Kesha visited the Empire State Building to celebrate her newly released album, “Period,” with a special lighting ceremony and tour of the iconic Observatory Experience.
The singer took in New York City’s best views from the 86th and 102nd Floor Observatories and then sat down with ESB Exclusives to discuss aliens, the bold new chapters of her career, and what celebrities would join her on a road trip to the Empire State Building.
After the Observatory tour, Kesha had a full-circle moment as she spoke of her personal links to the iconic landmark. “[The Empire State Building] started [construction] on my mom’s birthday, and it was finished on my birthday. We have a cosmic family connection,” she said.
Kesha rose to fame with early hits “Tik Tok,” “Your Love is My Drug,” and “Blow,” before a highly publicized legal battle with music producer Dr. Luke. No longer constrained by her former record label, Kesha has started her own and has released an album that celebrates her emancipation.
“For the first time in my life, I own the rights to my voice, and as a singer, that means a lot,” Kesha said in an interview with the Empire State Building. “I have co-produced and co-written and created everything that [will come] out… It’s the first time in my career, so it feels really special.”
Along with the groundbreaking album, Kesha will set out on tour with Scissor Sisters this summer, with a visit to New York City’s Madison Square Garden in late July. For Kesha, it’s more than just a pop show – it’s a space for fans to connect amidst a sometimes-chaotic world.
“I think the most political thing we can do is love, so I want to see how radical we can get this summer,” Kesha said. “I just want to bring so much love to every city that I go to across America.”
As she reflected on her career evolution, she had one definitive statement about how she has changed over the years. “The whole time I was worried about what people thought about me… and now I genuinely just don’t care.”
