WATCH: Tom Holland Swings by ESB to Drop “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” Trailer

Everyone’s favorite web-slinger returns to the Empire State Building.

Tom Holland stopped by New York City's top attraction to debut the official trailer for “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” and light the building in blue and red to celebrate. After the lighting ceremony, Holland sat down for an exclusive conversation about Peter Parker's next chapter, what it means to grow up on screen, and more.

A Fresh Start

In the most recent film, “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” Peter Parker made the ultimate sacrifice when he erased himself from the memories of everyone he loves to protect them. Now, “Brand New Day” picks up in its wake, and Holland stressed that the new film is not just another superhero movie.

"I think the movie feels, tonally, like a fresh start," Holland said in the interview. "What Peter Parker is going through post ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ is really profound and unique to the superhero genre."

Holland explained that “Brand New Day” defines what it means to grow up, find yourself, and keep going when everything familiar has been stripped away. For Holland, who has played Peter Parker since his debut in “Captain America: Civil War,” the theme strongly resonated.

"It's a movie about when young people really find their identity and become adults," he said. "Having been through that as a person, it really gave me a great insight into how to bring Peter Parker to life with this new chapter that he's embarking on."

New York City as the Ultimate Co-Star

There is no better place to launch a “Spider-Man” trailer than the Empire State Building, with its cameos in several of the franchise’s films. Holland reflected on how his connection to the city has only deepened with time.

"Every time I come back here, I fall more and more in love with it," Holland said. "More so than any of our previous movies, New York is really a key character in the fabric of this movie."

Punisher Meets Spider-Man

Beyond the emotional stakes and next-level action sequences, “Brand New Day” will introduce Scorpion and The Punisher, two major new characters, to Spider-Man’s story.

Holland expressed his excitement when talking about their dynamic on set. "I am so excited for people to see Jon Bernthal as The Punisher in this movie," he said. "He's come from a very different world; he's in the R-rated kind of universe. We've basically picked him up and plonked him into our world. And he absolutely sings in this movie."

What started as a contentious relationship between two very different characters evolved into something more as the actors ran with it. "It started as this relationship of two people that really kind of hate each other," Holland said. "And then as we started improvising, it became this big brother-little brother rivalry. It might be my favorite dynamic that I've ever seen with Spider-Man."

"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" hits theaters July 31.
